Shove Tuesday (or pancake day to most x)
Well, here it is again! Shrove Tuesday, or pancake day too most.
Lemons at the ready folks, as our dearest little monsters will be chomping at the bit to receive their amazing piles of pancakes.
As a child, I remember it being an exciting day, that regardless of the little money we had at the time - pancakes aplenty were available, more than I could possibly ever eat.
It was (and still remains in our house) a simple affair, the 3 options on the menu were .....
Plain ( I would not recommend) sugar (ok but not enough) or the piece de resistance the mighty sugar and lemon.
Yes yes, calm down I agree that crepes filled to bursting with fillings such as spinach, ham, and cheese, cinnamon and Nutella all have their place.
But not on Pancake day...... and not in our house.
Simple, quick, easy, and with the ingredients you expect.
keep shrove simple x
'Shoving' is a ritual that Christians used to go through - after confessing sins to the Priest, one by one.. confessing their sins & would receive absolution for them.
It is the last Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and seemed the perfect time to get rid of the indulgent things in the house.
In my eyes, it almost seems the second chance to start to be healthy and be rid of all a lovely fats in the house in indulgent quantity.
So perhaps...a better time after a socially, guilt-ridden January life change that we all knew 90% as the time fades
So below is the quick no hassle recipe for pancakes tonight .... but for those who just can't help themselves ..... I do have a soya drop scones that are yummy as a quick (mini thick pancake ) recipe.....
Whatever you all do tonight - have fun flipping your pancakes.
Basic pancakes
Ingredients
100g plain Flour
2 large eggs
300ml milk
butter to line the pan
lemon and sugar to top the pancakes
Method
First put your flour, eggs, and the milk in to a large bowl, whisk together gently. then when combined put into a jug that you can pour into your frying pan for the yummy pancakes.
Put a small frying pan over a medium heat, and rush with butter, when hot- pour the mix and move around the pan in a circle.
Cook for about 1 min (or basically till browning a little)
Then flip it baby!!! (our gently turn with a flat utensil - we cant all flip...but thats ok x )
cook for another min, then serve with a sprinkle of sugar, and a splash of lemon.
TOP TIP - to keep warm put a plate in the oven and turn on to 50/60º then place the finished pancakes on the plate to serve when finished.
