The power of SPINACH!

So, whats the fuss about? Have you noticed (along with our dear friend avocado) it's in loads of recipes from breakfast, lunch, and dinner! So whats the fuss?

Yes, yes, we all know that its good for us... but do we really know why? (Apart from it being green obviously.)

Ok, here goes ...It's Low in fat and even lower in cholesterol.

Our little cheap to buy friend Spinach, is also high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fibre, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese!

I know ,so what the hell does that actually mean in real life?

We all know vitamin C is needed! what is vitamin K? and what does it does for us? Well it is a key part of our blood clotting within the body and aids wound healing, it also plays a part in the strengthening of bones. Folate can help keep your blood pressure down, and lower the risk of a stroke, and all those minerals a key to helping our liver and kidneys work better.

The iron can help with fatigue, and energy levels, and I find its a great vitamin boost when it's "That time of the month" To get the most of the iron in spinach, you should eat it along with some vitamin C to help absorption.

Always bear in mind that any cooking process will lower the folate and vitamin content of this vegetable.

Easy to use in food, this powerful vegetable has many healthy uses and here are a great few easy recipes that include our friend spinach, that you can find on the website.

Spinach and feta tarts

Beetroot, and chicken wraps
